VIDEO: PATRICK MARTINEZ TIME LAPSE

blow up status: patrick martinez from Patrick Martinez on Vimeo.

Check out this fresh time lapse video of Patrick Martinez working on a recent painting titled Blow Up Status. You can see the finished piece below. You can check out a short interview about this project here.

So where did the idea to do a time lapse come from?

The thought just came to me, It felt like a good idea immediately. I was starting a new painting, just finished gessoing my panel and I thought about how people ask me about my process. Why don't I just record the process and create a video? I thought to myself. The vid is like a trip to my studio, you know? My boy Pom helped me with the creation of this video and it came out great. I think lots of people that are amazed by art naturally ask "how do they do that?" ...for people that wonder about my process this is sort of an answer.

PATRICK MARTINEZ IPHONE COVERS

Uncommon recently launched an art based series of iPhone covers which include artwork from a long list of stellar artists including Dennis Mcnett, Estevan Oriol, Craola, Date Farmers, Munk One, Ron English, Sam Flores, as well as our good friend Patrick Martinez. Patrick has 6 different graphics available that can be customized for your own personalized iPhone cover.

Patrick Martinez focuses on the phenomenology of his surroundings. He brings sublime beauty to things that aren’t thought of as conventionally beautiful. He uses subject matter such as everyday people that aren’t usually painted into the limelight and elements of the city that would be thought of as objects we take for granted. He uses these objects as communicative mediums. Patrick works with intellect and intuition in creating pieces of art that reflect and document situations that are ever present around him. Vitality and rhythm are the essence and energy in his artwork. His recent clients include adidas, frank 151, rime magazine, stussy, upper playground and nike.

INTERVIEW: PATRICK MARTINEZ

I conducted this interview with Patrick Martinez a while back for Vapors Magazine... Unfortunately, right as this was going to print the editor left and the entire issue got scrapped... You can peep the interview on the features section of our website. Patrick's current show, You Don't Have to Lie to Kick it, will be on display at Upper Playground Los Angeles through November 5th.

Patrick Martinez was predestined to create art since he was a small child. From his early youth drawing comics, to his stint with graffiti in middle school and high school, to his time at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, to his current career as a fine artist, Patrick has been determined to succeed as an artist.
Patrick focuses on the phenomenology of his surroundings, and his work is influenced by graffiti, hip-hop, and pop culture, as well as by everyday people that don’t usually appear in the limelight. We sat down with Patrick to talk about his creative process, fresh off the opening of his first solo show, "You Dont Have to Lie to Kick It," at Upper Playground in Los Angeles

PATRICK MARTINEZ "YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIE TO KICK IT" ARTSHOW

Got a chance to hit the Patrick Martinez “You Don’t Have To Lie To Kick It” artshow Thursday night at Upperplayground's FIFTY24LA Gallery for the Downtown LA Art Walk. To coincide with the opening, Mr. Cartoon's The Last Laugh released signed and numbered limited edition High Fructose Corn Loca skate decks. Here are some pics of the event:

The show starting to fill up fast, it was super hot in there.

This piece was my favorite, if you're from L.A. you can relate, LOL.

Such a dope piece, peep the cops blending into the Chinese joint.

Thugs eat Ice Cream too.

There are lots of hidden things on this piece, can you make them out?

Yours truly and Patrick Martinez.

Best Palm reading sign ever. West Coast!

Crazy idea, peep the detail.

Happy kid with his limited High Fructose Corn Loca Skate Deck.

Peep the sign or what you can see of it, it's like those painted department store windows... dope!

The event was a huge success as you can see.

Patrick works closely with Mr. Cartoon and Estevan Oriol at SA Studios, and has done work with such heavyweights as Stussy, Rime Magazine, and Upper Playground. Patrick will be showcasing a selection of new work at this show! Mark your calendars now!

Vimby caught up with Patrick Martinez, a good friend and a very talented artist. They follow Patrick at Upper Playground and the Last Laugh stores in downtown Los Angeles as well as show some footage of him at work at his studio. INTERVIEW: PATRICK MARTINEZ IN FORMATMAG

Our good friend and very talented artist, Patrick Martinez, just linked up with FormatMag for an interview. Alot of you saw the New Works show Patrick did with Eyeone at Tradition a few months ago... Patrick is on his grind, and you are going to see alot more from him in the future...
You can read the interview here.

Like so many kids growing up in the Pasadena Valley in the early ’90s, Patrick Martinez‘ formative years were shaped by bumping hip-hop in beat up Cutlasses and b-boy movies like Wildstyle and Style Wars. While graffiti is still an essential influence on Patrick’s artistic expressions, he has traded in his Montana cans for Windsor Newton University brushes. Influenced by city life and urban decay, Patrick seeks to bring supreme beauty to things that we might find flawed or broken.

EYEONE & PATRICK MARTINEZ "NEW WORKS"

Thanks to everybody that made it out to the Eyeone and Patrick Martinez "New Works" artshow last night at Tradition. Everybody had a great time, and the artwork was amazing! Aside from the free drinks and great music (courtesy of DJ Katashtrophy), everyone was excited by the stellar artwork from Patrick and Eyeone. The limited edition "Old Works" 'Zine were gone within the first hour, and Patrick's foam "Go Getter" hand was definitely a hit! The secret newspaper inside of Eyeone's newspaper stand was a nice touch as well.

Matt and the homeys from XWhereEaglesDareX went the distance, and made the journey out to the shop to check out the event. Matt blogs for a few sites including The Feed (The Hundreds) and Soul Assassins, but I would definitely recommend checking out his own site as well.
Check out the pics below, and look for more coverage of the event in the next few days.

EYEONE & PATRICK MARTINEZ "NEW WORKS"

By now you should all be aware of the upcoming artshow this Saturday entitled "New Works." New works features the art of two of my favorite L.A. artists, Eyeone and Patrick Martinez.
Eyeone has shown his work a few times at Tradition, and by now his stark, high contrast, and heavily layered photo transfers should be very recognizable to most of you.
Patrick Martinez's work is heavily rooted in the L.A. graffiti scene. His work contains quite a bit of satire as well as a political commentary about his environment. Patrick works closely with Mr. Cartoon and Estevan Oriol at SA Studios, and has done work with such heavyweights as Stussy, Rime Magazine, and Upper Playground.
The two have collaborated on a limited edition 'Zine exclusively for the show. You can check out additional preview images on the Juxtapoz website.
