WHAT'S THE SCENARIO


Though Lupe claims he was never a fan, A Tribe Called Quest was one of the most original and influential Hip-Hop groups of all time. Following the lead of De La Soul, their friends in the "Native Tongues", Tribe fused jazz samples with hip hop beats to produce a classic laid back style that would prove to be timeless. Exclaim recently posted a timeline detailing the career of A Tribe Called Quest. From Q-Tip's appearance on De La Soul's "3 Feet High and Rising", to Busta's participation in "The Low End Theory", to Q-Tip being introduced to Jay Dee by Amp Fiddler (George Clinton's keyboardist at the time), to the present. It's interesesting to read the evolution of one of the best hip hop groups of all time. Check out the article here. In the meantime, if you are not familiar with any of Tribe's work, do yourself a favor and immediately pick up one of their albums.
It's interesting to see just how influential Tribe's music is. Q-Tip stated that "listening to N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton that inspired us to make [1991's] The Low End Theory, and years later I spoke to Dr. Dre and he told me that hearing The Low End Theory inspired him to make The Chronic..."
